“JAPAN'S No.1 SUPER STAR”

JAPANS MOST EXCITING SINGING & DANCING GROUP

PINK LADY
“MIE & KEI”

[1978]

[Profile]

The only Japanese artist to have any appreciable impact in the West(until Pink Lady's unlikely stad at the American market in the '70s)was the late
Kyu Sakamoto.

Typical of the '70s idol boom was the two-girl act Pink Lady.
Mie(Mitsuyo Nemoto) and Kei(Keiko Masuda), high school friends from the city of Shizuoka, perfected a singing and dancing act that propelled them to the very top of the Japanese showbiz pantheon. They even had a TV show in the U.S.−the first and only Japanese pop act ever to do so.

Back in Japan, though, Pink Lady racked up a series of million-selling singles:"Nagisa No Shindobaddo," "Wanted," and "UFO." They broke up in 1981, but in late 1996 they decided to get back together to show the new generation of idols how it's really done.
